About Healthy Families:

Healthy Families is a voluntary parent support program designed to assist families, who are expecting or have just had a baby, adjust to parenthood. We do this by providing support, encouragement and information to the families we serve.

Healthy Families Believes:

• Parents are their child’s first and best teacher.
• Parenting is the toughest, yet most important job anyone can have.
• All children need and deserve the love of their families just as parents need support and encouragement as they care for their children.
• Parents are the experts of their family’s needs and are best at deciding which programs and services can assist them most.

Healthy Families Offers:

Healthy Families Floyd County offers two different services.  We begin by offering an initial visit in your home with families who are expecting or have just had a baby.  We strive to meet with all families in the community before or shortly after the birth of a baby.  We then gather information about your family which helps determine what services in the community might be beneficial to you.  We like to think of ourselves as the baby welcome wagon – complete with a free gift!

Some families may be linked to our second service – a home visitation program designed to provide support, encouragement and information to families who are expecting or have just had a baby.  We offer:

• Practical information about how to recognize the needs of your newborn. 
• Support in learning to balance caring for your child's needs and your needs.
• Information on what to expect as your baby grows older.
• Information on how to make your home safe for your child.
• Activities and support on how to encourage healthy child development.
• Community resources.
• Budgeting and financial support, transportation, educational support, employment and parenting skills.
